Slightly soiled sleeping bag
Mild soap (like dish soap)
Water
An old toothbrush or cloth
Spot washing instructions

If you've got a hybrid down/synthetic bag , you’ll also want to follow these instructions. A 2-person down bag could be too big for a home washer , so your best bet is to travel to the laundromat.
You’ll need:
Note: we don’t recommend cleaning or bleaching your bag . Don’t use fabric softener as it will damage the down fibers. If you’re machine washing, confirm it’s a front-loading machine with a mild cycle. Top-loading machines with a central agitator can cause damage.
Instructions for washing a down bag
Before you start, read the manufacturer’s instructions on your bag’s tag. If they differ from this recommendation , accompany their recommendations.
1. Close things up: Close all zippers and Velcro® attachments.
2. If you’re handwashing: Fill an outsized sink or bathtub with lukewarm water and alittle amount of mild soap or down cleaner (see instructions on the bottle).
Submerge the sleeping bag. Push it up and down a few times to work in the suds, then let it soak for a while. If there are any soiled areas on the shell fabric, use a sponge to figure them out.
Drain the soapy water out of the bathtub and press the maximum amount as possible out of the bag.
Fill the bathtub with clean water and press it into the bag, then drain. Rinse until the water is obvious and freed from soap – this might take six or more rinses.
Drain the maximum amount water as possible out of the bag. A plastic clothes hamper makes a handy “strainer.” Don’t twist or squeeze out your bag, as this may make the fibers clump together and will tear the material .
If you're washing by hand, then gently press out excess water – no wringing out the bag.
3. If you’re machine washing: confirm it’s a front-loading machine with a light cycle. Top-loading machines with a central agitator can cause damage.
Wash your bag by following the instructions on the down cleaner bottle.
Use a second rinse cycle if possible, and a minimum of a couple of of spin cycles.
4. Carefully move the bag to the dryer: When it’s wet, down is extremely heavy. Cradle your wet bag sort of a baby as you carry it from the sink, tub or washer to the dryer, so you don’t tear the material or stitching.
5. Dry on lowest heat: Dry your bag during a large dryer on rock bottom heat setting – this will take a couple of hours.
